When I found myself huddled over the heat vent a few days ago--while wearing a sock hat and a thermal-lined hoodie over my sweatshirt over my t-shirt--I realized how ridiculous my situation is! Really, I look like I'm homeless IN MY OWN HOME! Still, I didn't dare raise the temperature on the thermostat. (When the humor of the moment struck me, I asked #5 to capture it. He did a good job holding the camera steady.) I'm so looking forward to spring!

It's nice to live in a house with all the comforts, but what I don't like about my furnace is that when the blower goes on, it blows cold air until the other air in the system gets warm. Pretty startling when you're just getting out of the bath.
what temp. do you keep it set at? Ours is at 71, which makes me cold, but not three sweatshirts cold. What's the point of having a furnace if it's not going to make you somewhat comfortable?
Kent keeps it at 70 during the day and 64 at night. (74 is my ideal temp.) The big problem is that our thermostat is in the south-facing room that receives all the warmth, so it turns off during the day and keeps the rest of the house just warm enough to not freeze the pipes. Yikes! I'm not sure why $100 is the upper boundary for our gas bill, but when it was only $90 for December, Kent was pleasantly surprised. I'm just happy to have an electric mattress pad so I can stay cozy all night.

Ours is set at 68. I've come to terms with wearing socks, a sweatshirt and sometimes a scarf.
That reminds me of our house in CT. We always kept it at barely tolerable temperatures. Otherwise the bill went into FOUR digits. Luckily, I have no such issues in our new home.
